PLA Product Description
Polylactic acid or polylactide (PLA) is a biodegradable thermoplastic aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources and extensively used worldwide. PLA is subject to selective hydrolysis in vitro and additionally to enzymatic degradation in vivo and degrades into biocompatible lactic acid which aids in promoting wound healing.
With a tensile modulus of 2.7–16 GPa, PLA has been used in various forms as medical implants and breaks down within 6-24 months.
SNC has successfully incorporated PLA into wound dressings, implantable tissue scaffolds, cell culture plate inserts for 3D cell culture, as well as face masks for cosmetic applications.
